Meet Daisy

Workforce Challenge

When Daisy was initially enrolled in WIOA, she was basic skills-deficient in reading despite having just graduated from high school. She was working part-time in entry-level retail, feeling very stuck and not at all enjoying her job there. She had always been highly motivated and was certain that she didn’t want to work in that capacity for the rest of her life, but didn’t know what her next steps might be. She needed encouragement and exposure to other career options.

Workforce Solution

Daisy decided that she would like to enroll in the Office Administration program at Emily Griffith. She is very personable, organized and also bilingual, so this career path was well suited to her strengths. Through WIOA she received tuition assistance that helped her overcome a substantial financial barrier by paying for all of her tuition and books. She also received WIOA support to ensure that she had transportation to/from class each day. Through a business partnership established by the Denver Public Schools WIOA program, Daisy was offered a work experience opportunity with a well-known Denver nonprofit.

Outcomes & Benefits

Daisy is on track to complete her classes at Emily Griffith this spring. She is doing wonderfully at the nonprofit and they have offered her an unsubsidized full-time position as their receptionist. Daisy is set to complete her work experience this month and BBBS has arranged to hire her as a full-time employee. Not only is Daisy now a highly marketable and competitive member of the workforce, she also enjoys going to work every day and is encouraged about her future.
