Meet Roderick

Workforce Challenge

Roderick has a felony conviction on his record. When he was released from prison, he was driven to change his life for the better. He gained experience at firefighting camp and then, sought to find a job. The probation department referred Roderick to the Workforce Investment Board for job search assistance.

Workforce Solution

The Workforce Investment Board conducted workshops on how to present himself to employers, how to talk about the conviction question and how to interview well. Roderick completed the workshops focused, driven and motivated to secure a position he was skillful and passionate about.

Outcomes & Benefits

He secured a job as a full-time Firefighter Mechanic. Roderick states, “The assistance I got really opened my eyes to the opportunities out there even with a felony record. I plan on working my way up in my position and becoming a line firefighter.”
