Meet Russell

Workforce Challenge

Russell is a 59-year-old individual who lives in the local area. He served in the National Guard for seven years. He obtained his GED in 1983 in Dover, Delaware, and is very proud of doing so. Russell came into the Durango Workforce Center due to becoming unemployed from the construction trade as a CDL driver.

Workforce Solution

Russell successfully completed a CDL refresher course in March, 2015, with the help of WIA at the WFC. He has remained persistent in coming into the WFC daily to do job search, fax, email, and/or call employers about jobs. He feels that his age is a factor in successfully obtaining employment as well as the fact that he’s been doing stop gap employment for the past few years. The Workforce Center Staff have been instrumental in helping Russell do several different types of resumes, assisting him in completing online job applications, sending employer faxes and/or emails on jobs, etc. He has been very persistent throughout all of this, staying positive in his search for work.

Outcomes & Benefits

After all of his persistence and determination in searching for employment and staying positive, Russell has obtained full time employment as a CDL driver for Rac Transport, which allows him to be home every day. He thanks the Workforce Center for being here and helping him along the way to obtaining his goal. His positive attitude and determination have contributed in him obtaining employment.
