Workforce Challenge

Ryan was struggling to find a job on his own and reported no success, in spite of completing many applications and even a few interviews. That's when Ryan decided to apply to the McHenry County Workforce Network during the 2009 ARRA Summer Program for assistance.

Workforce Solution

Through the program, Ryan was placed at a worksite where he had the opportunity to advance his graphic arts and technical skills. He took advantage of the services offered through the year-round program, attending every single work readiness class throughout the school year. Ryan became a leader in the classroom and shared his personal successes and experiences with other participants.

Outcomes & Benefits

In the fall of 2009, Ryan was awarded a 200 hour paid internship and switched to a new worksite closer to home. He was able to further develop his computer and technical skills, as well as learn about running a small business. At the end of the internship, the owner of the worksite offered Ryan, a full time job based on his excellent performance and initiative. The worksite owner was able to adjust Ryan's work schedule around his classes at McHenry County College.
