Meet Elisa

Workforce Challenge

Shortly after losing her job as the director of a nursing home, Elisa was diagnosed with a serious medical condition. She was determined to find a new job. She continued looking for work and making the 20 mile one-way drives to the WFC for assistance while undergoing surgery, radiation & chemotherapy. During this time, she also exhausted her unemployment benefits and tried unsuccessfully to start a business to help seniors making the transition into assisted living.

Workforce Solution

When a position opened up with the Spanish Peaks Hospital Women’s Clinic, her case manager asked the clinic to consider hiring Elisa in an OJT capacity so she could learn the job.

Outcomes & Benefits

They agreed, and Elisa is now the full-time, permanent Voice Care Coordinator, where she is responsible for sales and accounting, and installs and maintains in-home medical alert systems. Elisa is also cancer-free and in remission.
