Meet Debra

Workforce Challenge

Debra was an experienced professional when she came to Workforce Boulder County (WfBC) in August, 2015. She had over 20 years of experience in high level administrative positions. In 2011 she left full-time employment to pursue a BA in English Literature at CU, which she completed earlier in 2015. Her challenge was that she hadn't looked for a job since 1998 and she needed guidance on resume writing and interviewing.

Workforce Solution

Debra took seven different workshops through WfBC: Career Exploration; Resume Critique; Creative/Essential Job Search Strategies; LinkedIn for Job Search; Transition, Transform, Transcend for 50+; 50+ Networking; and What's Your Interview IQ?

Most of these workshops were full, meaning that Debra would have had to wait up to four weeks before a workshop she wanted would be available. Because of her Veteran status (her deceased husband was a veteran) she received "priority of service" and was allowed to attend workshops that were already full. She used this to her advantage and sped through the workshops more quickly than most.

Outcomes & Benefits

The skills and knowledge that Debra took away from these workshops helped her land a job at her #1 target company. She was offered a position as an Executive Assistant with CSU's Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML). She was given supervisory responsibilities from the beginning, and her role was to support eight scientists from all different disciplines. Moreover, she was offered the job at the top end of the salary range! Congrats Debra!
