Meet Tri

Workforce Challenge

Using his GI Bill, Tri attended the University of Hawaii in 2008 to complete his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. After graduation in 2015, he moved to Lakewood with his family and started searching for a job. He did not work while in school, and he was unfamiliar with the industry or where to apply for jobs. As a Marine, Tri had the mentality of always being faithful, and he was determined to find a great job, using his new engineering degree.

Workforce Solution

Tri met a Veteran representative at Norwalk EDD who referred him to SELACO WDB for job search assistance, job search workshops and career exploration. Tri met with a Career Development Specialist at the job center, and she suggested that he attend the workshops. She also mentioned a company in Paramount, CA where she had placed people in the past, and provided him with all the details about the company.

Outcomes & Benefits

He applied online and was offered a job as a research and design engineer. He now has a new career with a company that has been in business for 56 years, and he is very involved with the community where they do business. Tri’s military experience, combined with his education, prepared him for a successful path in his new career.
