Meet Danny

Workforce Challenge

Danny is an Army Campaign (Vietnam) Veteran that has struggled over the past several years to work in a sustainable job. Danny has transferable skills that have enabled him to work in facility maintenance and mining and construction. Danny is a carpenter by trade and in a seasonal environment working in a sustainable job is not always an option.

Workforce Solution

After his unemployment claim ran out in October, he came to the Leadville Workforce Center for assistance. Many of the positions that he wanted to apply for do not pay a livable wage. Danny can get upset, and in this situation he became frustrated. Staff assisted Danny with updating and improving his resume and preparing him for face to face interactions with hiring managers at the upcoming Edwards Job Fair. This would enable him to make a good first impression. He was Job Fair Ready!

Outcomes & Benefits

Danny attended the job fair in Edwards with copies of his resume in hand and spoke with a representative from the Town of Avon. He made a good first impression and had the necessary skills. He was asked to apply online for a position in maintenance. A staff person at the workforce center helped him with the online application. A week later he was hired. He came by the Leadville Workforce Center during Veterans Week to say thanks for helping him go in this direction.
