SAFCU Update

Workforce Challenge

In the last 5 years, Straits Area Federal Credit Union (SAFCU) has grown over 45%, increasing staff by 10 employees. Last September, they moved into a brand new building, last October they hired 8 new employees and today, SAFCU has hired 2 more additional employees and is adopting new technology to better serve members. With all of this growth, SAFCU has relied on Michigan Works! for hiring assistance.

Workforce Solution

To aide in the hiring process, Michigan Works! hosted a Career Fair just for SAFCU, allowed them to use office space for interviewing, posted job orders on PMTC, collected resumes and referred qualified candidates. Michigan Works! also coordinated a SAFCU Talent Tour with Cheboygan high school students in the Construction Trades program. In conjunction with Devere Construction, students toured the SAFCU/Devere construction project last summer, and the students were able to see first-hand what was involved in this project.

SAFCU CEO Cindy believes that the knowledge and services provided by Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium is amazing. She states, “After going through the entire hiring process with MW!’s assistance, they have made the method of hiring much easier. We feel the Cheboygan MW! office has been an incredible resource for us. It was a huge success!”
