Meet Curystin

Workforce Challenge

Curystin's life was quite different before she began the Larimer County Internship program. “I had no way to get back on my feet,” remembers Curystin, and she couldn’t imagine what her future might look like. She realized she didn’t know what she wanted to do, but that all changed when she met with an internship coordinator. She had a great deal of support through the program. Curystin had basically no marketable skills before becoming an intern. That changed rapidly.

Workforce Solution

Soon she had amassed quite a few new abilities through her internship placements. It was then she decided to become a certified nursing assistant. “Even though I normally wouldn’t consider myself very sociable, I realized I was good at listening and had compassion,” she said. Curystin quickly recognized at the start of her studies that she was at the forefront of her class. She believes she had an advantage going into the CNA certification program because of being an intern.

Outcomes & Benefits

The internship program has provided Curystin with many advantages that would not have otherwise been available to her. “I wanted more for me and my son. I wanted a house and a truck, not just to benefit me, but more importantly, for my son to know mommy was trying,” she said. Thanks to being an intern, Curystin now looks forward to great things and has definite plans for her future.
