Meet Ashley

Workforce Challenge

Ashley found herself in dire need of help when her husband lost his job and they had a child to raise. "We were in a really bad place going downhill fast. We needed to get back on track." It was then she turned to the Larimer County Workforce Center's Internship program. She was hesitant about participating because she initially thought that this program might be like other assistance programs she had encountered. "I thought I would just be pushed through the system without much support."

Workforce Solution

She met her internship Coordinator, who not only helped her along the way, but encouraged her when Ashley felt overwhelmed. The internships that she participated in proved to be what she needed: a way out. Although she brought administrative computer skills with her, she learned so much more. She not only acquired fundraising skills and learned how to speak in public, but she also earned her GED along the way! "Although these things were way out of my comfort zone, I received nothing but positive feedback along the way. It made me feel good about myself," she said.

Outcomes & Benefits

Before the internship program, Ashley could not imagine what her life would be like in five years. "Many days I just wanted to give up," she said. "Not only have I come a long way, but I am now able to outline future goals for myself. Without the internship program, I do not know where I would be." Now is a whole different story for her moving forward. Ultimately her internship experience resulted in her successful full time employment.
