Meet Zakery

Workforce Challenge

Zakery worked as a seasonal waiter for a golf country club, but when the season was over, he was unemployed for more than 27 weeks. He wanted to find a more stable income; and therefore, he visited MichiganWorks! to seek assistance.

Workforce Solution

Case Manager Jenna helped Zakery with tuition, books and fees while he attended Alpena Community College in the Utility Tech program. She also helped him with mileage reimbursement, rent and fees to obtain a CDLA. Zakery did so well in his training, he even placed 1st at the National Lineman Rodeo.

Outcomes & Benefits

After training, Zakery was hired by Great Lakes Energy as a full-time Apprentice Utility Lineworker. He says, “Don’t let something as big as money stop you from living your dream. There are people out there willing to help you. I couldn’t be happier that I found MichiganWorks! to help me make my dreams come together!”
