Meet Janice

Workforce Challenge

In April 2015 Janice relocated to Colorado from Ohio and began using the American Job Center (AJC). Her challenge was that she didn’t know how to handle her work history gap. As a caregiver for a family member for a period of time, she struggled to write her resume. As an older job seeker, she was concerned whether she would even have a chance at getting hired.

Workforce Solution

Janice took various workshops to refresh her skills and even learn a couple of new ones. At the same time she took all available resume-related classes. she immediately found out the layout for creating resumes was completely different from what she had done before. She attended classes in Basic Resume, Advanced Resume, Mock Interview, Career Exploration, Word I & II, Excel I & II, and Don Strankowski’s Motivational Career Counseling. The workshops helped boost her confidence and gave her the skills to complete her resume and submit it to employers.

Outcomes & Benefits

As a result, she got a job! She attended one of the job fairs the AJC held in June with the Reed Group. She submitted her resume and was invited for a first and second interview. Janice was offered a position with health benefits.
