Meet Jasiel

Workforce Challenge

Before coming to Workforce Boulder County (WfBC), Jasiel was finishing his senior year of high school and working at a restaurant chain. He found restaurant work to be both stressful and unrewarding. He wanted to explore other future career opportunities and start laying the groundwork for success going forward. He wanted to improve on his existing computer skills and gain some new professional experience outside the restaurant industry.

Workforce Solution

Jasiel worked with WfBC's Youth Services staff. He participated in a career exploration workshop and took several self-directed computer courses. He learned how to apply for college scholarships, and he also gained some new time management and organizational skills. WfBC staff encouraged Jasiel to apply for a six week internship with Boulder County's Community Action Program (CAP).

Outcomes & Benefits

Jasiel was selected for the CAP internship, which he completed in August, 2015. "I loved my experience working with WfBC and CAP," he said. "I learned so much, including how to use Microsoft Excel and Publisher." Jasiel is now preparing to head off to college. He will attend the University of Northern Colorado (UNC)in the fall, where he is enrolled in the Cumbres Teacher Preparation Program. Jasiel is very grateful to WfBC and CAP staff for their support and guidance.
