Employment Services of Weld County

Meet Iqra

Workforce Challenge

Iqra was a newcomer to the United States by about three months at intake. Thankfully, because she studied English in her native country, language was not a barrier. Instead, she came to Employment Services of Weld County needing resources. She had questions such as where does she go to look for income, what type of career choices are out there for her, and the biggest one, with no transportation how will she get around?

Workforce Solution

Iqra met with a youth case manager who enrolled her into the WIA program as she would benefit from a work experience, supportive services and long term vocational guidance as she wanted to find a college where she could be a Surgical Technician.

Outcomes & Benefits

Iqra was placed at the Habitat for Humanity Restore where she worked as a warehouse assistant for 44 days. During that time she gained work maturity and ethic which assisted her in finding permanent employment and earning more than minimum wage. Iqra also enrolled at Aims Community College in the Surgical Technician program. With only being in the United States for six months, Iqra has it pretty well put together!
