Meet Miguel

Workforce Challenge

Miguel faced multiple challenges and made a great choice by visiting the workforce center. Miguel is 71 years old and he had been employed with the same company for the past 8 years earning $22.00 an hour. He lost his job, and due to his criminal background he was having difficulty finding work. Despite his efforts of applying for jobs in person, companies usually asked him to apply online instead, and Miguel did not know how to do this.

Workforce Solution

As a team, the workforce center staff addressed his concerns and gave resources for assistance. Miguel didn't have a resume, email address or an idea on how to apply for jobs online. He was scheduled for weekly appointments and during that time his case manager helped him put together a resume, create an email address and apply for jobs. He was very dedicated, showing up on time to the appointments and never missing one. He even learned how to check and send emails from his phone and he was very excited about what he was learning. Miguel filled out an application for a company that was only two blocks away from his home. After following up with the hiring department he was immediately scheduled for an interview.

Outcomes & Benefits

The workforce center's continuous encouragement gave Miguel hope, and even when he was really stressed, he never gave up. He is now employed full-time. He is very excited about the new opportunity and is grateful that his new job is only two blocks away from his house. He returned to the Aurora workforce center to express his appreciation for the services and assistance that were provided to him. He also said that without the workforce center's assistance, he would not have found employment.
