Meet Cameron

Workforce Challenge

Cam is a 17-year-old youth who first came in to the Frisco workforce center as a high school sophomore. He struggled in the traditional brick and mortar school and had recently transferred to an alternative high school. He had challenges at home and school and wanted to work. He had recently gotten a part-time job in retail, but wanted to learn more and needed a different outlet.

Workforce Solution

The Frisco career coach determined that Cam would benefit from a work experience. With his parents support, he was enrolled into the Workforce Investment Act program. When asked where he would like to intern, he indicated that he would like to work at the Workforce Center. He began in August of 2014 working a day or two per week. Since that time, he has completed a Job Hunting portfolio to ready himself for his job hunt after his internship. His duties at the Workforce Center were answering phones, helping job seekers in the computer lab, and reactivating youth in our communities. He successfully completed all his projects for the work experience and is continuing to work with the career coach for future endeavors.

Outcomes & Benefits

Cam has matured greatly since starting his internship and been incredibly helpful. He graduated a year early from high school and is attending a National Outdoor Leadership school soon. In a thank you note, he said “Thank you for planning the graduation celebration. It means a lot to me. I would also like to thank you for all the work you have done to teach me to be a better person while at the Workforce Center. Thank you for the mentoring and the life skills you have taught me."
