Workforce Challenge

Although Gerald has over 19 years of manual CNC experience, he was laid off due to a workforce reduction. He wanted to upgrade his skills and continue in the field with another company.

Workforce Solution

When he came to register with Livingston County Michigan Works!, he noticed a flyer for a CNC Operator/Programmer certificate program at Mott Community College. He realized that his years of experience combined with the certificate would make a competitive workforce candidate. With assistance from the WIA Dislocated Worker program, he applied and was accepted into the program.

Gerald worked hard in the program, staying late to be tutored on trigonometry and the programming software for MasterCam. He also visited the library in search of more resources to help him in his studies.

Outcomes & Benefits

Shortly after receiving his certificate, Gerald was sought after by several major companies. He finally settled on Classic Precision, who offered a competitive wage and benefits package. As a result of his training, Gerald now trains other entry-level employees as well as maintaining his day-to-day job responsibilities.
