Meet Michael

Workforce Challenge

After his wife took a teaching position, Michael relocated with his family into the area. He was unfamiliar with the local job market and not sure what to do next. While Michael had his Bachelor’s degree in Social Service, he was not able to find a job in this field. To make ends meet, he took a job in lawn maintenance.

Workforce Solution

Michael visited Michigan Works! Talent Specialist Barb provided job search assistance, including resume support and notifying him of new job openings in his field of interest.

Outcomes & Benefits

Shortly after visiting Michigan Works!, Michael found a full-time position with the Alpena Senior Citizens Center as an In-Home Assessment Worker. Not only is Michael making a better wage, he’s quite happy to be working in his field of study. He says, “This job is such an excellent fit for me! I have learned a lot and continue to feel like a growing asset to the Senior Center."
