Meet Mark

Workforce Challenge

Mark was un- or under-employed for four years. He moved from the Denver area to Colorado Springs and was not prepared for the cultural changes and skill set differences that a community only 60 miles away brought. Mark is a highly skilled technical professional, and he thought he knew all he needed to know about job searching. He tried contracting and startups, but soon discovered that although he had the technical skills needed, he was not a good fit.

Workforce Solution

After four years of a less than desirable work situation, Mark realized he needed to challenge his core belief system about employment. Although he did not see a need to meet with a workforce center career adviser, he finally did. She was direct and did not “sugar coat” his situation. This wake-up call enabled Mark to be willing to attend PPWFC’s employment workshops to better prepare for his job search. He updated his resume, learned new interview skills, and attended the Job Fair workshop so that he would shine at a job fair. He met with his career adviser and identified transferable skills and accomplishment statements. Through the Dislocated Worker program, Mark completed Network + & Security + certification training.

Outcomes & Benefits

After training, Mark landed a job as a project and business analyst for a small international software firm. He says, “From the homework I’ve done on my firm and the feedback I’ve received while being there, I believe I have a long and bright future with this company.”
