Meet Debbie

Workforce Challenge

Debbie was not employed and was borrowing money for living expenses when she came into the Glenwood Springs Workforce Center to look for a job with a self-sustaining wage. She had been working as a teacher's aide in a seasonal position with low pay. Prior to moving to Colorado, she had worked in hospice care for several years and really enjoyed the work. Debbie’s nurse’s aide certificate had expired back in 2007. Her dream job was to work again with either home care or hospice patients.

Workforce Solution

Glenwood Springs Career Coach determined that Debbie would need occupational skills training to upgrade her skills. Debbie was enrolled into the Workforce Investment Act and a C.N.A. training program was located that met the need to complete training in a relatively short period of time. The workforce program provided the funding for training, clinicals, and the C.N.A. exam.

Outcomes & Benefits

After successfully completing training and passing the exam, Debbie received her certificate. Debbie applied at several locations and received several job offers. She is now working full time at a local provider of home health and hospice services. She no longer has to borrow for living expenses and is doing well. Debbie expressed her gratitude to the Career Coach for the encouragement and financial assistance in achieving her goal. Congratulations!
