Meet Doug

Workforce Challenge

Doug quit his job in order to stay home and help raise his daughter. It was a tough decision, but he wanted to be a full-time dad. Ready to re-enter the workforce, he visited Michigan Works! to find a new job and utilize offered services.

Workforce Solution

Staff helped him revise his resume and cover letter, and they also entered him into the job pool. He received updates frequently about new job postings both from the Pure Michigan Talent Connect website and the local newspapers. Encouraged by staff, Doug attended a career fair prep class where he learned how to fill out online job applications and dress for success. As part of the prep class, he also participated in a mock interview. Attending the career fair gave Doug a chance to interact with employers and build confidence.

Outcomes & Benefits

Doug continued his job search until getting an interview with a large farming company. He did well in the interview and got a job as a general laborer. He says, “I came to Michigan Works! and made a resume and attended the career fairs. The staff was very helpful.”
