Meet Jason

Workforce Challenge

As an AEP participant who didn't want to be on assistance, Jason visited Michigan Works! for help with training and job search assistance.

Workforce Solution

Working with Talent Specialist Kim on the Pure Michigan Talent Connect website, Jason quickly secured an interview at Moran Iron Works. Kim referred him to Michigan Works! staff Nicole to connect with the company on an on-the-job training contract for welding. Jason had no prior experience with welding and through on-the-job training, he clocked 810 hours of welding training.

Outcomes & Benefits

Jason has demonstrated proficiency as a trainee. He has received two wage increases during training as well as a third wage increase after completing the on-th-job training contract. Jason is currently working towards his welding certificate. Moran Iron Works says, “Jason has really excelled in all areas. The different departments fight over him and have been pleased with how fast he is learning.”

Additionally, Jason is taking advantage of growing in his skills to advance in the company by working with a mentor on Wednesday evenings. He is one certificate away from being a certified welder/fabricator. Jason says “The staff at Michigan Works! are very friendly and helpful. They helped me get my foot in the door by offering the on-the-job training program. I am very thankful for that.”
