Meet Kurt

Workforce Challenge

Released from prison and in search of a new beginning, Kurt visited Michigan Works!

Workforce Solution

Working with Talent Specialist Elaine, he was enrolled in the job pool, and he willingly participated and followed through with suggestions and assignments. Elaine kept Kurt up-to-date on new job openings that matched his skill set. He attended workshops on resume creation, interview tips and appropriate work attire. He also attended one of the career fairs.

Additionally, Kurt was referred to Prisoner Re-entry/CMT Todd for temporary housing, transportation and clothing assistance. Todd also referred him to Elsa of Northeast Michigan Community Service Agency and to Michigan State Housing Development Authority for assistance with a more permanent housing situation.

Outcomes & Benefits

Kurt is doing well, and as a result of the career fair, he was hired with Embers of Mackinaw City. He says, "Thank you, Elaine, for fine tuning my resume and sharing your 'favorite cover letter' with me. Thank you to Barb for the proofreading and other assistance. Thanks Lauren/Niki for the classes and Todd for the help with the work clothes and much more!"
