Moran Iron Works

Workforce Challenge

Moran Iron Works is one of largest employers in Northeast Michigan, employing approximately 110 employees. The company requires welders to be able to read blueprints, as do many other manufacturers.

Workforce Solution

With a shortage of qualified talent and the desire to meet business demands, the company decided to actively pursue change by training employees. Through the Michigan Works! Skilled Trades Training Fund Grant, the company was able to partner with North Central Michigan College and offer a blueprint reading class for 3 hours a week, for a total of 6 weeks.

Outcomes & Benefits

The course has benefited the company's employees by building their skill set. The company says, "The assistance that was provided to us by Michigan Works! was very instrumental in the success of this program, as well as in the success of our employees!"
