Meet Adam

Workforce Challenge

Adam had no work history/resume, but he wanted a job so he could buy things for himself rather than put a strain on his family’s limited income. He sought job search assistance through the North Central Michigan College Youth Program, partially WIA funded by Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium.

Workforce Solution

Case Manager Sally enrolled Adam into Career Exploration for job search assistance. Together, they developed a plan to meet his needs. Recognizing his motivated attitude, Sally suggested job shadowing. Without a car, Adam used Dial-a-Ride to get around, but funded by the WIA youth program, he was soon enrolled in Driver Education. He participated in several job shadowing opportunities, including a county animal shelter, the county park and 2 restaurants. Enthusiastic and eager, he did a great job learning how to follow directions and work as a team member while creating a valuable start to his resume. Earning stipends, he continued to participate in leadership opportunities, and he quickly gained confidence in himself.

Outcomes & Benefits

Adam did so well at one of the restaurants that he was asked to apply for a position. He was hired! Adam continues to participate in the youth program, learning and growing – building a bright future. He is not afraid to step up and take the initiative while being trained in a work environment. Sally will continue to mentor and encourage him knowing for Adam, the sky is the limit!
