Meet Casey

Workforce Challenge

Casey dropped out of school, but in hindsight, she realized that she needed to finish or at least get her GED. She came to North Central Michigan College Corporate & Community Education’s Youth Program, funded through Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium, looking for help.

Workforce Solution

There she met with Case Manager Mary Lou, and she was soon registered in the Opportunity for Success (O4S) Program. Together they discussed her barriers to success and how to overcome them. Casey was further enrolled in the Excel High Program. Extremely driven, she worked on her lessons, studying hard to pass the course. Within 2 weeks she successfully completed high school. Casey also showed interest in college with the hope of becoming a CNA. Mary Lou made plans to visit the college with Casey who spent time building her resume, job searching and getting her driver’s license. It was during this time that Casey discovered she was pregnant.

Outcomes & Benefits

After having a baby, Casey focused on employment. She was hired as a nursing assistant. With help from Mary Lou, she also enrolled into a local CNA program. She switched jobs to Meijer where she still works today. She is considering employment options after graduation, including the military.
