Tube Fab

Workforce Challenge

In 2013, Tube Fab made the tough decision to layoff over 30 employees. To safeguard against further business losses and layoffs, they desperately needed skills training for their existing workforce. Amidst these challenges, Tube Fad decided to invest in infrastructure, equipment and training, but they needed help with the training portion. Typical of many northern Michigan manufacturing facilities, they had difficulty recruiting/training talent with a more advanced, qualified skill set.

Workforce Solution

Michigan Works! helped qualify Tube Fab for the Skilled Trades Training Fund. Once awarded, Michigan Works! collaborated closely with regional partners to devise a training plan and assisted throughout the process.

Outcomes & Benefits

Thanks to the Skilled Trades Training Fund, 23 employees completed LEAN training and 32 completed GD&T training. Since the completion of this training, Tube Fab hired 11 new employees and in the coming year, they plan to add an R&D department, develop two new lines and hire an additional 5-10 employees. Boasting less than 1% employee turnover, Tube Fab is thankful for this funding. They are thrilled to be able to invest in their employees and their future.
