Ramada Inn of Grayling

Workforce Challenge

While helping the Ramada Inn of Grayling with a job posting, Michigan Works! staff member Julie learned that servers needed to be TIPS or TAMS certified. This certification protects the company from liability and prevents customer intoxication. Ramada lacked the ability to provide the training.

Workforce Solution

Michigan Works! staff contacted a TIPS trainer and a Catholic Human Services representative to provide training at a reduced cost. They also offered their office space and computers to train the Ramada employees. During this time, Ramada realized they needed a qualified maintenance person. They came to Julie once again for assistance in posting the position and finding suitable applicants. In speaking with Doug, the Veterans Employment Specialist, Julie thought that U.S. Navy Vet Ray would be a good fit.

Outcomes & Benefits

With Doug and Julie's recommendation, Ramada hired Ray as their Building Maintenance provider. Ramada said, "Grayling Ramada Inn and Conference Center has benefited from the services that MW has provided to us. They've provided us with the opportunity to send employees for a TIPS Training class, which was instrumental in providing the training our staff needed for alcohol sales and all that it entails. We appreciated everything that the Grayling MW has done for our establishment and its' employees. Thanks to MW we were able to train 7 people and fill 1 position!"
