Meet Destiny

Workforce Challenge

Destiny was unemployed, and she lacked childcare, transportation funds and appropriate interview/work clothing. She also lacked relevant work experience and job search skills. The Department of Human Services referred her to Michigan Works! in order to enroll her in the PATH program.

Workforce Solution

Michigan Works! Case Manager Michelle provided Destiny with resources for childcare, job search mileage reimbursement and appropriate interview clothing. She also referred her to the Pure Michigan Talent Connect website to review open positions. Additionally, Destiny attended job search workshops and worked with Talent Specialist Mary to create a resume and cover letter. With guidance from her case manager and talent specialist, Destiny learned that hard work and persistence pays off.

Outcomes & Benefits

Destiny was hired part-time at a Senior Citizens Center and shortly after, she was offered a full-time position with Turning Brook as a Direct Care Worker. She says, “Michigan Works! helped me find the job I love, and [I] am still working at today. If it wasn’t for them, I probably would never have found it. I thank them so much for their help with my needs to provide for my family.”
