Meet Jessica

Workforce Challenge

Jessica is a single parent who lost her job with a nursing facility. She needed a fresh start and applied for cash assistance through Department of Human Services.

Workforce Solution

Once referred to Michigan Works!, Jessica attended the orientation and actively engaged in the AEP process. She enthusiastically attended class and prepared a resume and cover letter. She also received the support needed to gain confidence while seeking employment. Through the PATH Program, she received financial assistance with mileage and interview clothing. With a revised resume, Jessica applied for positions and quickly secured an interview.

Outcomes & Benefits

Soon after her interview, Jessica was hired! She now works more hours at an assisted living/retirement community with an increase in pay. She loves her new job saying, “I love working here and working with the elderly. My co-workers are so friendly, and it doesn't even feel like work when I'm here!" Losing your job unexpectedly is a very negative experience, but Jessica said “Michigan Works! gave me a better outlook.” Most recently, Jessica passed her CENA exam, which will increase her opportunities and future wages.
