Meet Antonio

Workforce Challenge

As a single father working part time in a fast food restaurant, Antonio was having difficulty with the logistics associated with graduating from Pikes Peak Community College. He was taking the local bus system and riding his bike because he had no other transportation. Even with financial aid he was having trouble paying for classes, books, and supplies. In addition, his financial aid was coming to an end. Working with the Pikes Peak Workforce Center, Antonio is now on the path of fulfillment.

Workforce Solution

Antonio’s WIA Youth program application stated, “I want to broaden my horizons by getting help fine tuning my resume and gaining knowledge of job and volunteer opportunities.” After enrolling in WIA, he was able to buy a car but still needed help paying for gas, aid the program offered. WIA also provided assistance with tuition, books, and supplies. In the WIA Youth program, Antonio participated in the Learn to Lead program, which honed his leadership skills and helped build his confidence. He now volunteers with the Learn to Lead program and often suggests improvements to make the platform even better than it is! He’s participated in monthly Youth Zone volunteer activities & attended the IT Academy that introduced him to careers in IT.

Outcomes & Benefits

Antonio has almost completed his Associate’s degree and plans to transfer to a 4-year university to study international business management. He is now employed full-time with an international charitable organization. He is actively involved in his church and community and recommends friends he perceives are struggling to enroll in the WIA Youth program. Antonio is on track to achieve an established future and true fulfillment!
