Workforce Challenge

AA Gear & Manufacturing (AA Gear) is committed to be the most efficient, vertically integrated, high-quality batch manufacturer of complex shafts, splines and gears. Excellence and innovation is their objective as they operate with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities. Due to a very lean skilled trades market, AA Gear & Manufacturing has been faced with the challenge of finding qualified candidates.

Workforce Solution

The Skilled Trades Training Fund (STTF) allowed AA Gear to train and enhance the skill level of their existing employees, thereby improving the current employee pool.

Outcomes & Benefits

Through the STTF grant, fifteen employees were sent to gear training and 11 employees were sent to a customized CNC training. In addition, the Skilled Trades Training Fund enabled the company to hire 8 new employees who participated in on-the-job-training (OJT).

Kevin was a job seeker hired in the saw area on the second shift and provided with OJT. After two months of training, he received a wage increase of $1 an hour. After another two months, Kevin was promoted to first shift with a pay increase of $.50.

Casey and Richard also attended training, achieving the top two test scores at 98%. Casey is currently employed in the Grinding Department, operating CNC machines, with the goal of becoming a programmer. Richard was transitioned to the Grinding Department, where he is learning how to set up-machines and write programs.
