Workforce Challenge

At a very young age, Vanessa lost her mother to domestic violence. Her father raised her as a single parent, teaching her that a good attitude and conflict resolution skills would help her be successful in life. As a 19-year-old high school graduate, Vanessa was at a crossroads. She chose to enroll in the WIA Gear program to seek training for future employment.

Workforce Solution

Once enrolled, she started studying for the TABE test. She took the test and passed on her first attempt. She also completed WorkKeys® at the Silver level. Additionally, Vanessa enrolled at Greenville Technical College where she studied to become a CNA. She worked part-time during the day and took classes at night. She went on to complete training and pass the state exam.

Outcomes & Benefits

Vanessa completed clinical at NHC Greenville. Her performance and work ethic was recognized by her manager who offered her a full-time position. Since working, she has saved 6 months of her income, purchased a new vehicle and moved into her own apartment. She refuses to accept mediocrity and continues to make progress on other career goals. Congratulations Vanessa!
