Meet Megan

Workforce Challenge

Megan began with the Adams County Workforce & Business Center as a homeless youth, who lived with her mother in a motel and sometimes outside due to unemployment.

Workforce Solution

Megan was enrolled in the Workforce Investment Act Youth Program and began preparing for a post-secondary training to gain more valuable skills for a future career. Because she needed immediate financial assistance, she was offered a paid work experience through the program to give her work experience and wages to help provide for her mother and herself. The worksite was internal and was a customer service position focused on assisting other people who were looking for workforce center help to get jobs. Her mother also enrolled in workforce programs and has since started working.

Outcomes & Benefits

Megan completed 10 weeks of her work experience when three temporary positions within her team were posted. With the encouragement from her team members and with newly gained job readiness skills she had from attending workforce center workshops and working with workforce case managers, she applied for the job and was hired on in unsubsidized employment. She increased from 20 to 29 hours per week and from $10 per hour to $17 per hour. Way to go, Megan!
