Workforce Challenge

Zenith Education Group, a national company with a large call center/financial aid office, was faced with laying off more than two-thirds of their workforce. Through the state, Zenith requested Rapid Response assistance, and the company was connected with the local workforce region. Layoffs were planned and scheduled in two phases, and the employer wanted to provide their impacted workers with as much assistance and information as possible before their last day.

Workforce Solution

Business Service Representatives from the workforce center, along with State Rapid Response, met with Zenith’s HR director. Two rounds of layoffs were scheduled: the first in two weeks and the second within six weeks. The main concern was to provide Rapid Response services before the first round of layoffs. The services requested by the employer included the traditional Rapid Response workshop, an enhanced presentation from the workforce center including staff from Adult WIA, healthcare information and a condensed interview workshop. All parties involved worked as a team to put this large and extensive presentation together within a short amount of time. Many staff members rearranged their work schedules to ensure these services were delivered.

Outcomes & Benefits

Approximately 40 employees took advantage of the workshop and received valuable information about UI, workforce services and interview techniques. Many were planning to visit the workforce center for other job readiness workshops and/or intensive job search services through the WIA Adult program. The team received very positive feedback from both the job seekers and the employer. As tough as a layoff can be, the impacted employees are now better prepared for their transition.
