Meet Donald

Workforce Challenge

Donald's past as a troubled youth had landed him at a Rite of Passage Center, where he was ordered to stay for a period of time. It was an opportunity to turn his life around.

Workforce Solution

As part of efforts to assist troubled youth and help them develop job skills and career interests, Durango Workforce Center staff went to the ROP, providing job readiness workshops to individuals who were scheduled to be released soon. Those in the workshops registered in the Connecting Colorado job search database so they could review open jobs and consider where they might like to apply.

Staff showed Donald how to use the Connecting Colorado toolbox to complete a general job application on the site. He emailed his completed profile/application to the workforce center staff, who then faxed it to the employer he was interested in working for: Pride Weed Control.

Outcomes & Benefits

When Donald was released from ROP, he received a call from Pride Weed Control and was hired for a full-time position. He came into the workforce center for supportive services and had his work clothes paid for by the Workforce Investment Act which helped him be prepared to go to work.
