Meet David

Workforce Challenge

David had been employed with Boeing as an aircraft mechanic for 29 years when he was laid off. This had been his only position since he graduated high school.

Workforce Solution

David visited the Community Career Center. With staff, he decided that the best way to find a new position was to acquire new skills. David expressed interest in Heavy Equipment Operator/Class A training. He wanted to work in a fast-paced environment where he would be physically active and not confined to a single area or location. With help from staff, David was approved for WIA-funded training.

Outcomes & Benefits

David successfully completed training as a Heavy Equipment Operator/Truck Driver level 2 with enhancements. Those enhancements included: skip loader, road grader, skid steer-backhoe/loader, forklift, dump truck and other OSHA certifications. He is now employed full-time with Associated Ready Mix as a Cement Truck Driver.
