Meet Susan

Workforce Challenge

Susan first visited the Pikes Peak Workforce Center (PPWFC) to fulfill the requirement for unemployment benefits. At the time, she was pretty discouraged because she had been laid off twice within 8 years. Susan had been selling new homes when the 2008 recession hit and the bottom fell out of the housing market. She felt that her age was standing in the way of finding higher paying jobs.

Workforce Solution

Susan met with a PPWFC career advisor, and she was enrolled in the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) program. In the program, she received intensive services including, but not limited to, resume building and focused job search assistance. In addition, Susan's career advisor recognized that she was grieving and recommended that she attend the PPWFC workshop titled, “From Job Loss to Job Search.” She also attended PPWFC computer classes to update her computer skills.

Outcomes & Benefits

Susan has since returned to new home sales as an energized and confident saleswoman with new skills. She thanks PPWFC for their services and encouragement. She recommends that other job seekers not lose hope and instead, seek help from the workforce center.
