Meet Venus

Workforce Challenge

As a young mother struggling with drug addiction, Venus barely graduated from high school and almost lost her children. When she was placed in a foster home, she decided to take the first steps to build a better future for herself and her children. She knew she needed to invest in a career, and she was interested in becoming a registered nurse.

Workforce Solution

A social worker told Venus about a Workforce Investment Board (WIB) program that could help provide training, and she was approved. The America’s Job Centers of California also provided assistance to help her study well, fill out job applications and teach her about alcohol and drug addiction.

Outcomes & Benefits

Thanks to the assistance she received, Venus secured a position with Premier Medical Transportation. She is also completing her studies to become a registered nurse. She says, “I received much more help than I expected and I appreciate it more than ever." Now sober, employed and in school, Venus is looking forward to her promising career and hoping that she can help others live healthy lives.
