Meet Kenneth

Workforce Challenge

Kenneth was incarcerated for a couple years. Upon his release, he went to live in a sober facility. At this point in his life, he did not know what his next steps should be, and he did not have supportive resources to help guide him.

Workforce Solution

One of Kenneth’s friends referred him to the Workforce Investment Board (WIB). He was approved for the re-entry program. After he successfully completed the program, Kenneth was assigned to a WIB advisor who helped to enroll him in the Technical Employment Training for Machine Trades. As he said, the program gave him “hope and possibilities.” His advisor also taught him how to use Metrolink for transportation.

Outcomes & Benefits

Kenneth became certified under the National Center for Construction Education and Research. Shortly after, he secured a position at California Micro Systems as a Shipping & Receiving Supervisor. He wrote the WIB saying, “I could never have done this on my own. The whole experience allowed me to gain the confidence I so desperately needed to believe that I could continue my education and training, and know that I could do it and complete it. I can’t thank [the Workforce Investment Board] enough for supporting me through this to help change my life.”
