Meet Dennis

Workforce Challenge

Referred by Homes for All Veterans (HAV), Dennis visited the Pikes Peak Workforce Center (PPWFC). He had been living under a bridge in a tent. On his first visit to PPWFC, Dennis received emergency support services. He needed help getting back on his feet and that included finding a job.

Workforce Solution

After receiving emergency services, Dennis returned to PPWFC, which acted like a clearinghouse for further assistance, connecting him to services across multiple agencies. He was referred to El Paso County Human Services for food stamps, BlueJay Telephone for a free cell phone, and AARP Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) for possible enrollment in their program as well. Dennis was assigned a case manager, and together, they developed a resume. The case manager also researched custodial job openings close to his tent and along bus routes. With a good starting list of open positions, Dennis worked closely with his case manager as he applied for each job.

Outcomes & Benefits

Through multiple community partnerships, Dennis was able to find stable housing, eventually moving into his own apartment. He was also able to secure employment. The assistance Dennis received from PPWFC helped to propel him forward and cement the hope of a stable future.
