Meet Tara

Workforce Challenge

Despite an exhaustive search, Tara had been unemployed for more than a year. She had clerical and sales skills, and she had been previously self-employed as a childcare provider. Tara also had a medical assistant certificate, and she decided to upgrade her skills so she could return to the medical field. As a single parent, she needed a career that would support her children.

Workforce Solution

Tara decided to enroll in a vocational nursing program. She was referred to the Workforce Investment Board by the training provider. Tara was approved for Workforce Investment Board funding to attend school full-time. She successfully completed the licensed vocational nursing program, passed the National Council Licensure Examination and obtained her license. The Workforce Investment Board funding also helped pay part of her license fees.

Outcomes & Benefits

Tara is now successfully employed by AmeriHealth Hospice Provider, Inc. as a licensed vocational nurse/community liaison representative.
