Meet Jeremy

Workforce Challenge

Jeremy was living in a homeless shelter with his mother and receiving food stamps at the time that he enrolled in the Workforce Prep Program. While he was very excited about exploring different careers and gaining new work skills to become self-sufficient, he was deficient in basic reading skills.

Workforce Solution

Jeremy consistently attended all work readiness classes and began to overcome some of the obstacles in his personal life. He obtained employment and was determined to be a reliable employee and become responsible for his financial future. His decided to enroll in classes at McHenry County College as a Criminal Justice major.

Outcomes & Benefits

Jeremy was placed at a paid internship in May of 2009 at the McHenry County Workforce Center. During his 14 months at his worksite, staff expressed how much his maturity increased and his development of new work skills and soft skills. In August of 2010, Jeremy left for basic training with the Marines after consistently working with a recruiter for a year. He has already completed many credits towards his Criminal Justice degree and continues to pursue his dream of a career in law enforcement.
