Meet Michelle

Workforce Challenge

For six months, Michelle worked as a Temp with a company in the food industry. She was able to keep her job despite industry-wide lay-offs, but soon she too was laid off. Michelle was referred to the SELACO-WIB by the EDD Norwalk Office.

Workforce Solution

Michelle visited the SELACO WIB because she was interested in training to enhance her job search and interviews. She was assigned a case manager, and attended job search and “Steps to Economic and Personal Success” workshops. She stated that she looked for employment mostly online, but also drove around town and networked with friends/agencies. The most usable skills Michelle learned were how to write a targeted resume and cover letter as we as following-up with companies after interviews.

Outcomes & Benefits

With these new skills, Michelle applied for a Sales Assistant/Customer Service position with Brush Research Manufacturing, and she was hired full-time. Although she is not earning the salary she would like, she is determined to work hard and prove herself. She said about the WIB, “They were extremely helpful. I tell everyone about the wonderful resources."
