Meet Jeff

Workforce Challenge

Jeff was laid off when his company closed. He decided to take this opportunity to transition into the healthcare industry, and he was accepted into the 2-year registered nursing (RN) program at Butte College. Having exhausted his unemployment benefits and needing financial assistance, he came to the Sutter County One Stop, a proud partner of America's Job Centers of California.

Workforce Solution

After completing a vocational assessment, labor market research and meeting with a One Stop staff member for eligibility, it was determined that Jeff was eligible for the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) program under both the dislocated worker and the veteran's grants. Jeff was found to be a good candidate for retraining, and the WIA program was able to assist Jeff with his required books, uniforms, shoes and testing fees. Jeff said, "One Stop made it possible for me to focus on my studies and family. Without the resources One Stop provided, my journey would have been more difficult."

Outcomes & Benefits

Jeff completed the program on schedule and passed the state exam. Soon after, he found a full-time job at a local medical center. He is an outstanding student and worker who received recognition at graduation and at his place of employment. Jeff also has been accepted into the CSU Chico RN-BSN program.
