Meet Jon

Workforce Challenge

Jon overcame numerous challenges, including limited education, minimal family support and mental health challenges. Additionally, his family moved out of state without him, and he returned to foster care. Jon needed support and encouragement to help him be self-sufficient.

Workforce Solution

Jon enrolled in the Teamwork Innovation Growth Hope and Training (TIGHT) Program (a collaborative initiative with DHS) designed to delay or eliminate out of home placement and to develop employment and basic life skills. He was co-enrolled in the WIA Youth Program to receive assistance obtaining his High School Equivalency Diploma and to ensure seamless delivery of TIGHT services. Additionally, Jon was enrolled in a 300-hour term of service with AmeriCorps. Through this program, he would be able to reach his financial goals and earn an Education Award.

Outcomes & Benefits

Jon obtained his High School Equivalency Diploma, has developed positive work skills, has an established savings account and has developed both short and long term career goals. Through these programs, Jon overcame many obstacles and has achieved several goals. He is on his way to becoming a self-sufficienct adult with options for a successful future.
