Meet Glenn

Workforce Challenge

After 10 years of employment as an Avionics Electronics Technician, Glenn was laid off. He had 21 years of experience in aircraft manufacturing with ten years as an electrical final installer, six years as an avionic electrical technician and five years building hydraulic motors for aircraft. Having received an invitation from the Wichita WFC, Glenn attended a TAA orientation session. He had been unemployed for over a year despite diligently searching for a position. Additionally, 4 more manufacturing companies in the area experienced major lay offs.

Workforce Solution

Glenn researched his options and enrolled in the Air Conditioning Technology program at Wichita Area Technical College. However, he was recalled to his trade impacted position as an Avionics Electronics Technician. Due to the unstable outlook of the aircraft industry, Glenn elected to continue his training and complete his Associate of Applied Science in Air Conditioning Technology. In order to accomplish this, he went to school part-time so he could go back to work.

Outcomes & Benefits

Glenn completed training, which included an internship. Although he maintained his previous position, he was grateful to gain valuable skills that will help him find employment in the event of another layoff. He has also been able to use his training to give back to his community. He says, “I have been able to use my education already in helping at our own church. I could not have done this without you!”
