Meet Vincent

Workforce Challenge

Vincent’s early school career was marred by a criminal record, poor attendance and behavioral health hospitalization. He lived with various family members and sometimes secretly slept in the sober houses where his family members resided. He had aspirations to become a pharmacy technician and then, a pharmacist. However, he did not have resources for the training needed.

Workforce Solution

Through his high school, Vincent learned about the Colton, Redlands, Yucaipa Regional Occupational Program for youth, which is funded by the San Bernardino County Workforce Investment Board. Vincent applied for federal financial aid, which assisted him in paying for his pharmacy technician class. Through WIB funding, he was able to complete the program and also received help in gaining work experience.

Outcomes & Benefits

Vincent passed his pharmacy technician class with flying colors, exhibiting academic integrity, consistency and peer leadership throughout the course. He is currently waiting for his state licensure and is taking the prerequisites for his transfer degree at Crafton Hills College.
