Meet Kyle

Workforce Challenge

Personal family problems caused Kyle to fall behind at school. By senior year, he was unable to graduate. He also had financial difficulties and needed to find a job to support himself. Without experience, he was unable to find employment. Apple Valley Unified School District told Kyle about the services offered by the San Bernardino County Workforce Investment Board that could help him graduate high school and find a job.

Workforce Solution

Through the WIB, Kyle was paired with a coordinator who helped him take summer classes, set-up a paid work experience with Town and Country Tire, and secure funding for business clothing and transportation costs to and from work.

Outcomes & Benefits

Kyle is now working towards his high school diploma while earning income to support himself. He has also begun a full-time job with Conco Construction. Kyle said, “I am able to work while continuing to earn credits towards graduation. This program has set me up with a future in which I can rely on myself. It has taught me not to give up on my education and the value of working hard for something you want. It is great to have a program like this to help kids like me and others who are struggling with life.”
